Ben Rogerson announced as Club Captain with Ben Steers taking over as 3rd XV skipper

Old Bedians is pleased to announce the appointment of Ben Rogerson as Club Captain and Ben ‘Dougal’ Steers as 3rd XV captain for the upcoming season.
Originally hailing from Lancaster, Ben Rogerson joined the club in 2010 having been convinced by two friends to come down shortly after he moved to Manchester following University.

The feisty scrum half took no time to settle into the club moving through the ranks to establish himself as a first team regular. In his eight years at the club Rogerson has amassed three 1st XV player of the year awards and one Spirit of Bedes award, all this despite a two year sabbatical in Australia!

Ben ‘Dougal’ Steers played his first game for Bedians after travelling up from Brighton for his brother’s and former 2nd team captain James Kington’s 30th birthday. It happened to be Steers’ first game of rugby and in typically Bedes style he was thrown in coming on as substitute winger and walking off the pitch with a try.

When Steers moved to Manchester three years ago there was only one club he was going to join. Since then, he hasn’t looked back and his rugby career on and off the pitch has flourished having graced the hallowed turf at Twickenham and appearing on BBC News backing Ireland for the World Cup 2015.

Director of rugby Mike Gallagher said,
“I’m very pleased with the appointments, I have been impressed with the leaders that we have developed over the years at the club and the whole club is in a much stronger position. The captains and the wider leadership group will shape the ethos of the club performances on the pitch and I’m looking forward to next season already.”

Club captain was voted in by at the club’s AGM on 15th May and 3rd XV captain was appointed by the executive committee. It was decided at the AGM that the 2nd XV captain will be a shared responsibility role with match day captains appointed to develop leadership throughout the club and increasing the fluidity between all three teams.
Ben Rogerson replaces Ali Webley as Club Captain and Ben Steers replaces Steve Tarling as 3rd XV captain.
