Bedians kick on
By Ali Webley
Bedians took the field somehow still searching for a first league win of the season but with much expectation and confidence, walking out against the struggling Ashton team who we had beaten in the cup two weeks previously. This time it was 40-3 (with a slight miscalculation as Rob Blewitt kicked each of his 6 conversions, including a few impressive.
Three tries either side of half time saw Rob Blewitt, Ben Rogerson, Pat Willis, Joe Powell, James Gaffney and Lawrence Smith all crossing the whitewash. This alone was a positive sight, but even more pleasing was the way the tries scored. As usual there were fine individual efforts all the backs making big metre runs but what even more impressive was the application of the hard work put in at training, with two tries coming directly from a new move we introduced in the recent weeks. However, it wasn't just in attack this was demonstrated - a defence that didn’t concede a try despite the continued pressure of an improving Ashton team showed that we are managing to put into practice all the things we are doing on a Tuesday and Thursday night.
In addition a couple of successful debuts showed that the competition for places is now as fierce as can be remembered. An unbeaten 2s team with lots of new faces all over the pitch now gives us excellent options in every position.
With the first win of the league under our belts we have now moved off the bottom the table. Let’s continue to get to training and keep the momentum as we face Eagle next week.
