Old Bedians Appoint New Senior Men’s Head Coach

Daniel Walder22 May - 14:15

Old Bedians are thrilled to announce that Danny Newall will remain at the club and has been appointed as the club's Senior Men's Head Coach.

Newall joined the club last summer and worked alongside Sam Larner during last season’s campaign.

Newey brought a wealth of experience to Millgate Lane. An Edge Hill University graduate with coaching badges in both league and union, he spent 7 years in professional rugby league; on the coaching staff at Warrington Wolves, Oldham RLFC and the Widnes Vikings. Newey also spent 9 seasons coaching Widnes 2nd XV, winning 3 trophies in the process. Firstly a league championship in 2017 and then completing a league & cup double in his final year with the club in 2023.

Ben Rogerson had the following to say about Newall's appointment:
"We are absolutely delighted that Newey has agreed to be our head coach for the upcoming season. Newey was a brilliant addition to our coaching team last year who really drove standards and improved the cohesion of the team, resulting in some improved performances as the team developed together. We look forward to what next season brings knowing we’ve got a top head coach to lead us forwards."

Newey is already looking forward to getting pre season training underway and the challenge of going up into division 4.

“I think we finished last year very strongly. Its was a difficult start to the season and we stuck together as a team really well. Its not an enjoyable experience to lose games regularly and that's when we find out what the lads are really made of when times get tough. I was pleased with how well we stuck together and how we got through a difficult patch and finished the season so well. The team spirit and positivity was fantastic and I think there are exciting times ahead.

I like winning and I want to win trophies at this club those are my aims this seasons. If we can work hard at training and continue to improve the squad we have and add to that with some recruitment then I think we are going to be in a great position this year. However we need to put the effort in to get out of the season what we want to achieve and I have full confidence that the group we will do just that."

Pre-Season begins on 25th June at 7pm. if you're interested in joining us, get in touch at oldbedians@gmail.com or contact our club captain, Danny Walder, on 07891 610579.
