Old Bedians began the season this weekend with a strong 62-29 win for the second fifteen against Glossop third team.
It has been a busy summer of recruitment for the club with its #Project50 initiative.
What is #Project50?
Club stalwart Steve Cook is the brainchild behind the idea.
The idea of the scheme is to encourage all players to recruit across their networks with a target of 50 new players across the club.
Steve Cook explained,
“At the end of last season, I sat down with club captain Ben Rogerson and the director of rugby Mike Gallagher and we worked out that for the club’s three teams to continue to prosper we need to have 50 players available week in week out. Most of our players have been encouraged down by a current member, whether that’s an old uni mate, a colleague or a friend who have had their arm twisted (literally).”
Each player was sent 50 flyers at the start of the summer to use as they see fit to help recruit new players to the club. Players have used the flyers to speak to lads in the gym, pub and even to cheer up England cricket fans leaving Old Trafford!
For each new player recruited, the recruiter gets either a month free subs or money to spend in the club shop.
