Bedians mixed flowing rugby with dogged determination to claim all 5 points at the lane.

Bedians returned to the lane after successive away trips, to host St Mary’s Crosby in the first 1st XV game seen in Didsbury this season.
With no need for coaches or car convoys this week, it was the Liverpudlian side who appeared rusty at the start as Bedians came out of the blocks firing.
Strong ball carrying from captain and number 8 Jack O’Shea, supported ably by fellow back row companions Joe Eley and Ben Dawson punctured holes into the Crosby midfield.
With the forwards looking strong, the centre partnership of Jinner Dave and Minnie showed the creativity that England wish they could call upon, regular breaking the game line and off loading with aplomb.
Bedes early pressure was rewarded with 3 points when Jack Johnson continued his good early season form with the boot by knocking over a penalty 22 yards out in front of the sticks.
From the restart Scouse Pete collected well and the forwards again drove into the heart of the opposition. Ricky T showed the aggression that had lacked in the first half of the previous week and Pete Kerr was omnipotent at the breakdown.
Some good hands released Minnie down the left wing who, with a no look passed, switched with Bryan Cheese who galloped under the posts, relishing his in his time at 11 rather than 15.
Bedians continued to play rugby and a second try followed soon after as Aussie Mike ran past would be tacklers to score under the posts. The extras added again by Jack Johnson.
With Bedians playing their best rugby of the season so far it seemed that further tries would be inevitable, however it was the visiting side who provided the next 5 points after Bedians reacted slowly to a tap penalty.
The score was 17 v 5 at half time and with St Mary’s pulling themselves back into the game in the last 10 minutes of the first period, it was set up to be an enthralling second 40.
First blood went to the visitors in the second period, but Bedes were not to be out down as Joe Eley replied by crashing over from short range shortly after, following great work from Rob Renshaw.
The game was beginning to bubble up and frustration in the St Mary’s ranks was seen as their strong running number 5 was sin binned with 25 minutes remaining.
Bedians looked to take advantage of the extra man, but the away side defended stoutly, refusing to gift Bedes the 4th try bonus point.
With the match reaching a peak Rouge received a red card, and suddenly the tables had turned as it was Bedians now down to 14 men with the visitors returned to their full compliment for the last quarter.
St Marys began to mount a wave of attacks and had Bedes pressed into their own 22, when a misplaced pass fell into the hands of Swifty who ran the length of the pitch to score under the posts, pulling his hamstring in the process.
With Swifty departing the pitch and Jack O’Shea, Bryan Cheese and Joe Eley all carrying injuries the hosts were down to about 10 fit players for the final few minutes. St Marys played well to take advantage of the extra space and scored two late tries to bring the deficit to within a score.
Last ditch Bedians defence and some great scrummaging managed to force turn over ball at the death and secure a hard fought win for Bedians.
Bedes will be pleased to have taken the full 5 points on offer against a determined and aggressive St Mary’s side and look forward to yet another trip up on the M6 to Clitheroe on Saturday.
