Bedians Narrowly Beaten

Old Bedians came away from Crosby St Marys with only a solitary bonus point, after a promising first half in which it looked like they could take so much more.

After a bright start, Bedians were first to put points on the board when scrum half Ben Rogerson slotted home a penalty. Crosby came straight back, and after some great defence shut the home team out, they levelled the scores after the referee harshly awarded a penalty for going off the feet. However Bedians fought straight back, Rogerson adding another 3 points, and for the rest of the half Bedians knocked on the door before Pat Willis eventually crossed the line, Rogerson adding the extra points to give the visitors a 13-3 lead at half time.

However the second half turned out to be a very different affair, as almost immediately after the kick off, Bedians were unable to deal with a chip over the defence, allowing the full back to run through to score Crosby’s first try. They were soon to add another after poor defence at the fringes allowed the Crosby scrum half to dart in for a try from two yards out. Bedians responded well as Rogerson gave them a one point advantage with a well-struck penalty. Unfortunately Crosby replied with a penalty of their own to take a two point lead.

Whilst the remainder of the game saw Bedians create more chances, with Rogerson unlucky to not add another penalty towards the end, Crosby held on to take the win.

Bedians come away from the game knowing they can perform so much better, and know they will have to as they look to make amends with a home fixture against Colne & Nelson on President’s Day this coming Saturday.
