Hosting a newly relegated outfit was always going to be difficult, despite being at home, and with key players missing in certain positions matters were not made easier. However Old Bedians started the match with strong pressure from the start lasting for the first 20 minutes, until a breakaway in midfield led to a try for Hutton. Rob Naughton then took a chance to bring the scored back with a penalty in front of the sticks. But 3 tries in quick succession before halftime led to the game being balanced firmly in Huttons favour.
After the break the play was largely the same, with Huttons very well organised attacking line led to more tries being scored through the midfield, putting Bedians firmly out of the game. There were good phasesof play throughout the match for Bedians, but it didn’t amass to much as Hutton continued to stretch their lead.
There were positives to take, some very strong team displays of defensive play on the line, and some good running in the middle from Vince Betty which involved scoring a breakaway try from half way. But none of this was enough to win against a strong, well drilled team.
