Bedians made the trip to Shropshire looking to reverse a poor run of form which has seen them out on the wrong side of some tight games over recent weeks. They knew it would be tough against the form team in the league standing a place above them but with one win against the Shropshire team already this season, they were confident of getting something from the game.
Unfortunately it was not be Bedians' day, losing 3 key players to injury in the first half which had an effect across the pitch. Some sloppy first up tackling allowed Whitchurch to take advantage and dominate field position, while some savvy work at the breakdown sucked in the Bedians defence and allowed the home side to go over for four first half tries. Despite a couple of good spells of pressure with ball in hand, the home defence held firm, and Bedians were only rewarded by two penalties, both ably dispatched by first time skipper Joe Powell.
The second half was a much more even affair, and despite a lovely move with some great offloading by the entire Bedian backline being finished off by substitute Diego Miguez, Whitchurch were able to cross for three more tries, the game finishing 43-13.
All in all a disappointing day, but the boys in blue can hold their heads up with their performance. While beaten by a better side on the day, the score line did not reflect the effort put in, and on another day the story could well have been different.
Thanks to Whitchurch for a competitive game, and good luck for the rest of the season and their bid for promotion!
