Bedians Overcome Stubborn Resistance to Post First Win of 2018

Old Bedians made the short trip to local rivals Broughton Park on Saturday delighted that the weather had held and that they would finally be able to get a fixture after an unsettled December period. The early exchanges showed a lot of ring rust, but that is to take nothing away from the opposition who applied themselves admirably all day and were able to take the lead with less than five minutes gone with their impressive 8 crashing over from close range. After this wakeup call Bedes started to go through the gears fairly quickly with short passages of good organised play resulting in three tries of their own in the half and a comfortable lead at the break.
With a strong wind at their backs for the second half Bedes were able to pin the home team in their own half. However, a few basic errors in decision making and soft penalties meant the Broughton Park were able to play themselves out and back into the game – their second try coming from a succession of six penalties in a row. Bedes went back at Broughton Park and made much better use of their field position to finish off the game with two well worked backs tries. First game after Christmas is never easy, but Bedes earned a deserved win and now look to keep moving back up the table over the next few games.
